In November 2018 the EU adopted a new strategy on India that aims to strengthen the EU's strategic partnership by focusing on modernisation.

The EU is already India's leading partner in terms of trading and investment. Bilateral trade in goods in 2019 and services amounts to €107 million, while foreign direct investment amounts to €70 million in 2018.
